About metmar

By resilient housing, we mean housing that can respond to environmental pressures, limited resources, changing household needs, damage, and repair. Resilience is not tied to one material or construction method. It depends on the conditions of each place and on what people can access, build, maintain, and adapt over time.

Vulnerable environments may face limited access to safe and affordable housing, material scarcity, displacement, damaged building stock, climate stress, or seismic risk. They also include places where access to materials, technical support, or formal construction systems is limited.

How we work
Our work begins with the metmar observatory through research, fieldwork, mapping, interviews, material experiments, workshops, and design charrettes to help us understand how people live, build, repair, and adapt. These observations inform the houses, systems, and elements we develop.

metmar was founded by architect Mulham Al-Kharboutli and works between Syria and New Mexico.
